Hey y’all :)
Happy Monday! How are y’all? I’m in the library (as always) searching for scholarships and I came across this one, which asks me to talk about what makes my school unique. Well, isn’t that easy! Hopefully I have a real shot at this thing!
Honestly, coming to St. Cloud State was a really good decision for me. SCSU could be described as a second choice school compared to the University of Minnesota, but for me personally I got accepted to both. I weighed my options carefully before deciding to attend St. Cloud State. While distance from home, campus size, and cost were all factors (especially for my parents), the key was where I felt I belonged. Yeah, that’s right, I based one of the most important decisions of my life on intuition. But it all worked out. Besides having an amazing hockey team (go Huskies!), St. Cloud State has a sense of community that I feel is special. With over 250 organizations to join, it’s so easy to make friends here. Our student body is diverse and we all have different interests, but when it comes down to it, we’re all St. Cloud State Huskies, and we support each other. It’s hard to find that at every single school.
I’m an intended Political Science major, and St. Cloud State has all the tools for me to be successful (whether it be in law school, government, or a nonprofit). The faculty in my department couldn’t be any more knowledgeable and caring. They have a detailed course plan for incoming students, and give us a chance to learn about things we never imagined. I’m excited for what’s to come. I am sure that the department will do all they can to help me find internships and jobs for when I am done here (but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there).
Sure, St. Cloud State has a reputation for being a “party school”, but in my opinion, every school has parties. Ultimately it’s up to you, what you wanna do and who you want to associate yourself with. As my mom always says “Life is about choices, make good ones.”
